I'm really pleased with this work now, considering the kids knew absolutely nothing about digital imaging, just look at what they can do! It's a pleasure to work with minds eager to learn. Digital imaging can give amazing results but you still need to learn the basics to make it work for you. They're doing that now.

PR work
Today we're putting up our bags and t-shirts in the school, hopefully more kids will see just how cool art can be and just how much they might enjoy it. The great thing about this project is that it has nothing to do with exams but everything to do with discovering your own creative potential in a fun way.

Others used images of what Maybole used to look like years ago.

This is an excellent website for background information on the industry of Boot and Shoe here in South Ayrshire.

Carrick Art Residency 2008 - 2009
Working with S1 - S5 pupils, Alison F Bell, textile artist, is introducing the pupils at Carrick Academy, Maybole, to digital imaging and its integration into textiles. One of the focuses has been Maybole's Boot and Shoe Industry, once a thriving source of employment but now long gone.Initially, last term, the pupils researched aspects of this plus finding their favourite contemporary shoes. These varied from high end football boots to absolutely wacky shoes.
Using simple techniques in PhotoShop, they experimented, played and printed out their ideas on paper, t-shirts and kit bags.
Some are featured here, though its still early days yet as to what type of item to be printed, these display the pupils' work well and have a strong appeal.
